Weekend Fun gave owners Phoenix Thoroughbreds a perfect parting gift by winning her likely last start for the Dubai based team at Remington Park on Saturday evening.
The three-year-old More Than Ready filly goes under the hammer at Keeneland this week as Hip 3193 and gave a glimpse of what her new owners can expect with a strong running victory. The success takes her record to two wins in her last three starts while overall she’s only failed to hit the first three places in four out of her 11 runs.
Sent off as a strong favourite for the six and a half furlong Allowance race, Weekend Fun broke well from her inside the gate and sat just off the early pace. The strong headwind down the backstretch didn’t seem to bother the filly as she travelled powerfully into contention as the field reached the turn. The only runner still racing on the bridle into the final corner her winning chance was obvious. Picking up well after being posed the question by jockey Stewart Elliott she began to move away from the field despite some late challengers and sign off in style in the colours of Phoenix Thoroughbreds.
Out of winning dam Weekend Fantasy and closely related to G1 winner Wolfhound she has a page full of prolific black-type winners and is offered as a racing or broodmare prospect. Details here.
