War Cross made it back to back wins as the Phoenix Thoroughbreds trainee delivered another impressive performance while scoring at Thistledown.
Trainer Ed Vaughan previously saddled the War Front gelding to a 14-plus length victory at Belterra Park and watched on as the four-year-old took his record on dirt to two wins in two attempts under a confident ride by John McKee.
A second career success looked to be very much on the cards for most of the one mile and 70 yards contest. Breaking from gate seven, the horse with the big white face was soon up with the pace travelling powerfully on the flanks of the leader. The writing was on the wall as early as the far turn as McKee eased his mount into a narrow lead. It was clear nothing was going to go with War Cross and into the stretch, he continued to put daylight between himself and the rest. By the time he crossed the line, he was over four lengths clear and cruising.
