Thorpe green but good on debut.

Thorpe green but good on debut.

Phoenix Thoroughbreds and Fung Family Investments may have another exciting prospect to go to war with after Thorpe landed a debut success at Beaudesert on Saturday (April 29).

The son of Coolmore’s Fastnet Rock overcame a few signs of inexperience before powering home in eye-catching fashion to land a southern hemisphere double on the day for the Phoenix team.

Annabel Neasham’s colt broke well from the barriers and was encouraged by jockey Robbie Fradd to take up a position in the vanguard. Settling in fifth and about five lengths off the early leader, the juvenile travelled well if not slightly exuberantly. Rounding the turn for home, he was one of the first off the bridle and initially looked like he wouldn’t be a factor in the finish. However, he eventually responded to his rider’s urgings and shaped like a classy colt as he strode down the middle of the track to pass his rivals and win with a bit to spare.
