Crazy Beautiful took her tally to six stakes wins while closing in on $1million in prize money thanks to her victory in the Latonia Stakes at Turfway Park.
Her purse earnings now stand at $984,490 thanks to a seventh overall career success, a win that also made her Phoenix Thoroughbreds’ ‘winning-most’ horse of all time. The four-year-old takes that mantle from the Dubai-based owners’ MGSW Lady Apple. Also placed at G1, Kenny McPeek’s charge has now won on three different surfaces adding synthetic success to her debut win on turf and subsequent well-documented dirt achievements.
Jockey Brian Hernandez Junior admitted post-race that the daughter of Liam’s Map took a little to adjust to a first start on the “all-weather” track, but “once she got comfortable, she went on to win pretty easily.” Hernandez had his regular mount settled in third throughout the race as Turfway Park specialist Breeze Rider set some easy fractions at the head of the field. Hernandez had to get a little serious with the grey filly at the apex of the turn for home with the leader still moving powerfully. In the stretch, Crazy Beautiful found her stride to move alongside her main rival before moving clear inside the final half-furlong to win with a bit in hand.
