A gelding operation seems to have made all the difference as Rock Of Kryptonite dominated the opening race at Horsham on Saturday to claim an impressive success.
The Phoenix Thoroughbred’s owned runner recorded a six lengths victory, having dominated the 1100m race from start to finish. Impressive trials had always led the Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior training team to hold the son of I Am Invincible in some regard and in this first start since being gelded, he proved them right.
Breaking smartly from the barriers under jockey Mikaela Lawrence, he was soon o the front end. In fact, those first 200m was the last time he saw another horse in the race. Settling well, Rock Of Kryptonite cruised through the race with a bit of daylight back to his nearest pursuers. By the time he led the field into the turn, many of his rivals were already working hard as Lawrence remained statuesque in the plate. It wasn’t until the top of the straight that the jockey let her mount loose and when she did, the gelding responded to power away, having the luxury of being eased down over the line.
