Phoenix Thoroughbreds homebred Invincible Jet off the mark in style.

Phoenix Thoroughbreds homebred Invincible Jet off the mark in style.

In a dominant display, the Phoenix Thoroughbreds part-owned homebred Invincible Jet got off at Kembla Grange on Saturday, December 12.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott the I Am Invincible gelding had shown great promise in his first three starts and made no mistake powering away in the closing stages of the Maiden Handicap. For jockey Winona Costin, she recorded her second win in as many rides for Phoenix Thoroughbreds. Her previous mount for the Dubai based group saw her guide another of the owner’s homebreds to victory when onboard the Golden Slipper winner Farnan for his success on debut.

It was a very cool ride too from Costin who made use of Invincible Jet’s customary early speed. The pair settled well in second behind the early leader. Travelling strongly the gelding moved into a share of the lead at the top of the straight before the rider asked him to go and win the race. He responded with a terrific turn of foot to score with plenty of daylight back to the second-placed runner.

A first winner for Rip Van Winkle mare Recurring Dream, the gelding is closely related to Group One winners Te Akau Shark and Pondarosa Miss. He also holds close bloodlines to prolific stakes winner Ecuador.
