Nominator gives Phoenix another homebred success

Phoenix Thoroughbreds celebrated more homebred success on Saturday (March 12) thanks to Nominator’s victory at Gosford.

Out of G1 placed mare Designated Driver, the Zoustar gelding produced a stunning “go to 0” performance to break his maiden’s tag at the second time of asking. He joins the ranks of Phoenix Thoroughbreds’ bred winners, including Golden Slipper winner Farnan, Group 2 scorer Letzbeglam and Listed-placed Angelic Scent.

Ridden by James Innes Junior for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in the 1100m contest, the juvenile broke well and soon set the fractions at the front of the field. Travelling well within himself, he was still to see another rival at the turn for home. With no dangers appearing, Innes Junior asked the gelding to go and win his race and he sprinted clear to record an impressive two and a half-lengths success.
