Phoenix Thoroughbreds have further strengthened their breeding interests by adding six mares from the Keeneland November Sale.
Breeding is a vital part of the innovative fund’s business model and they have been steadily growing their broodmare bands in North America, Australia and Europe.
In foal to Uncle Mo, Pioneerof the Nile offspring Dreaming Of You was the group’s most expensive purchase. Listed as Hip 226 the team behind the ambitious operation went to $500,000 to secure the mare who is from the family of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner New Years Day. Closely related to Prioress winner Penny’s Reshoot she has a page full of multiple Graded Stakes winners including Justwhistledixie, Fountain Of Youth winner Mohaymen and Kingly.
By the time Dreaming Of You joined the roster, Phoenix had already moved to acquire Hip 46. A winning Private Vow mare by the name of Pacific Pink she is pregnant to More Than Ready. A half-sister to five-time winner Fearless Leader she has a family chock-full of stakes performers.
Multiple-winner and black-type placed Boom Bam Bing (Hip 534) was another picked up that will take on broodmare duties for her new owners. Carrying the foal of Blame, the daughter of Exchange Rate has close bloodlines with Grade Three scorer Ms Bad Behaviour, while Grade Two success Devil’s Preacher resides in the family tree.
From the family of Grade One winners Dahar, Rivlia, Delegant and Dhalia’s Dreamer Hip 598 was another acquired by “Team Phoenix”. Named Emerald Quality and out of Quality Road, the mare is in foal to Twirling Candy.
Vision D’Etat mare Cartabianca was picked up as Hip 958. A listed winner in France and with a strong European pedigree, including Group One placed Kindergarten; there is every chance she’ll be shipped across the Atlantic to start her career in the breeding sheds.
The final Hip to join the Phoenix breeding ranks was 1048, otherwise known as Ginger Mo. Not surprisingly by Uncle Mo, she is related to Grade Three winner Speed Seeker and is in foal to Bernardini.
