Lemon Kick recorded the first win of his career with a dominant performance on the turf at Arlington on Thursday, September 24.
Co-owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds, the Chris Davis trainee appeared very weak in the betting but nobody told the son of Lanes End’s Lemon Drop Kid.
With the clock confirming what seemed obvious to the naked eye that the pace was on the pedestrian side, jockey Jose Lopez held his mount in a share of fourth. Making his move at the start of the turn Lemon Kick eased into contention with his jockey statuesque in the plate. Once in front, it was always going to be a case of how far. With Lopez allowing himself the luxury of a long lingering look over his shoulder the three-year-old recorded a six-length win. Social distancing at it’s very best.
