Homebred Secaution stylish at Warwick Farm.

Phoenix Thoroughbreds homebred Secaution is off the mark after a stylish victory at Warwick Farm on Wednesday (February 22).

The Sebring filly was having her third start and built on some eye-catching trials. Annabel Neasham’s trainee put in a promising effort on debut, also at Warwick Farm, before she pulled up lame after her second start but banished that memory with some authority to break her maiden.

The race’s early stages followed the speed map with Secaution and her jockey Chad Schofield sitting behind two early pace setters. If anything, the eventual race winner travelled a little keenly, but it didn’t affect her too much as she produced a striking turn of pace in the home straight to win with something in hand.

“She seemed to be over travelling in the race, but she was really good late,” Neasham told Sky Sports Thoroughbred Central post-race. “She got through the ground well and she’s a filly we always thought would be up to metro standard. She’s just taken a bit of time, but hopefully, she can piece it all together from here.”

“We’ll just build through the grades now and see where we get to with her. She’s a really nice filly.”
