The Phoenix Thoroughbreds breeding operation produced yet another homebred winner thanks to Power Ballard’s front-running success at Canterbury on Friday (November 17).
The Exceed And Excel filly had shown plenty of promise as a juvenile and promptly got her three-year-old career off to a winning start. Returning stronger than in her previous preparation, the Waterhouse-Bott trainee was well-backed on her return to the track following a couple of solid trails, and she didn’t disappoint under a well-judged Nash Rawiller ride.
Bouncing out for the barriers, the well-bred filly was soon at the head of affairs and setting the fractions. She settled into a nice rhythm before her rider asked her to go and win the race in the home straight. She quickened well to open up by a couple of lengths and managed to hold off a late charge from her stablemate.
