Gaby pleases Maher in final Champagne prep.

Co-head trainer Ciaron Maher continues to be pleased with the way Loving Gaby is progressing as she was put through her final prep before lining up in the Group One Champagne Stakes on Saturday.

The Phoenix Thoroughbreds owned filly has been seen to great effect this season having opened her career with victory in the Group Three Chairman Stakes before eye-catching runs in defeat in the Blue Diamond, Golden Slipper and most recently the Sires Produce Stakes. She’ll be stepping up to the mile trip for the first time this weekend, and she pleased Maher and his team during a work-out under her big race jockey James McDonald on Wednesday morning.

Maher told Racing.com “She’s getting deep into her campaign no, but she hasn’t missed a beat. She’s really strong in the stable and feed bin, and she’s improving with each start.

“You’d think the mile, with the way she went through the line (in the Sires Produce Stakes), should be no problem. James McDonald rode her in work and gave her a good report said she worked great.

“I think the key will be if she can get back on a better track, the weather looks fine this week and fingers crossed it stays that way.

“I’m confident she’ll run to form, that’s probably what she needs to do, but she’s improved every start, and she’s been faultless throughout the campaign, very smooth.

“She got off the bridle at the top of the straight in her last start but really rallied, and you don’t really see two-year-olds do that!.”
