Forest Caraway provides Miller with first Phoenix Thoroughbreds win.

Forest Caraway provides Miller with first Phoenix Thoroughbreds win.

Forest Caraway gave Peter Miller his first Phoenix Thoroughbreds owned winner thanks to a good looking debut victory at Del Mar.

The daughter of WinStar Farm’s Bodemeister, the filly has always been held in decent regard by her California based trainer. Despite that, she was sent off at double-figure prices for the five and a half furlong Maiden Special Weight before running out a comfortable winner off a flashy pace.

From the word go jockey Ricky Gonzalez seemed to be encouraging his mount to keep up with the quick early pace. Keeping tabs on the front-runner from about four lengths back the two-year-old filly became to close the gap as the field swept through the turn. At the top of the stretch, she’d drawn level with the leaders and as the furlongs ticked down, she found her self adding distance to herself and her rivals before crossing the line two and a quarter lengths in front.

Out of winning mare Thin Disguise, Forest Caraway is a half-sister to Grade Three winner Holiday Disguise and five-time winner Midnight Disguise. In addition, MSGWS Naughter New Yorker is counted as a close relation.
