Flashing Steel to outrun odds in Blue Diamond?

Flashing Steel to outrun odds in Blue Diamond?

Annabel Neasham believes Flashing Steel can outrun his huge odds in Saturday’s G1 Blue Diamond at Caulfield.

The Not A Single Doubt colt is one of two runners in the field for the Phoenix Thoroughbreds/Fung Family partnership with Peter Moody’s Merchant Prince also in the line-up.

Flashing Steel is one of two runners for the Phoenix Thoroughbreds/Fung Family partnership lining up in Saturday’s Blue Diamond Stakes.

Flashing Steel is priced up as a 200/1 shot after an “unlucky” run last time but does carry some decent Group placed form into the race.

“He’s obviously big in the market and there are a lot of well-credentialled horses that have won races, but I think he’s probably over the odds of where he should be at,” Neasham told Racing.com.

“He’s Group placed in the Canonbury behind Best Of Bordeaux, so he’s got some nice form there.

“Last start, he was quite unlucky, he got squeezed and spat out the back and he ran out of room in the straight where he was a bit green.

“We galloped him the reverse way with the shades (blinkers) on at Warwick Farm and he worked super; he actually worked with Mo’unga.

“We were happy put him on the truck; he’s settled in well down here and who knows, maybe he’ll prefer this way of going.”

The two Blue Diamond contenders aren’t the only Phoenix-owned runners gunning for black-type this weekend, with multiple Graded Stakes winner Crazy Beautiful set to run in the G3 Royal Delta Stakes at Gulfstream on the same day.
