Owners Phoenix Thoroughbreds were left delighted with the draws for their two star Juveniles headed to the Breeders’ Cup Future Stars Friday.
Both Tiz The Bomb and Double Thunder gained favourable inside positions with the pair of Graded Stakes winners looking to enhance their burgeoning reputations.
Kenny McPeek’s impressive G2 Castle And Key Bourbon Stakes winner Tiz The Bomb will break from post four under jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. in the Juvenile Turf. A 14 length plus winner on the dirt at Ellis Park on his second start, he switched to the turf to win the Juvenile Mile Stakes at Kentucky Downs. Those wins preceding his last time out success in the “Win and You’re In” event at Keeneland. The son of Hit It A Bomb looks to follow in the hoofprints of his sire, who took the event in 2015.
Meanwhile, Todd Pletcher’s Double Thunder will have Flavien Prat for company when he breaks from post five in the Juvenile, a race famed for throwing up future Kentucky Derby Stars. The Super Saver colt won his first two starts adding the G3 Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs to his maiden victory at Monmouth Park. It would be back at the New Jersey track that he would pick up his third win thanks to a facile success in the Sapling Stakes. The grey comes into Friday’s challenge off the back of a second-place finish in the G1 Futurity Stakes at Keeneland, overcoming a slow start to get into the mix.
