Gronkowski is likely to bid to go one place better than he did last year in Dubai World Cup with the Phoenix Thoroughbreds star featuring among the entries for the Meydan showpiece.
The son of Lonhro missed out in a photo to double winner Thunder Snow in the 2019 renewal and, along with the Saudi Cup, a return to the race a year on has always been the primary target. Like 12 months ago, he could be joined in the line-up by stablemate Axelrod while the Phoenix Ladies are likely to pin their hopes on Superior.
Emerging star Al Battar looks to be, at this stage, the main hope for the group in the Dubai Turf with the Ladies’ Golden Jaguar also given the option to run. Meanwhile, Ahmad bin Harmash’s Animal Kingdom colt is the sole entry for ‘PLS’ in the Sheema Classic.
Team Phoenix is mob-handed in the sprint divisions. Captain von Trapp, Pocket Dynamo, Neverland Rock, Debonair Don Juan, along with Phoenix Ladies Jukebox King, Mambo Mischief and Walking Thunder hold entries in both the Golden Shaheen and Al Quoz sprints. Lanksy could join them in the latter of the two options.
Phoenix Ladies have a trio of entries in the UAE Derby, headed up by American Pharoah’s Crseven. At the same time, plenty of those already mentioned are given a nomination for the Godolphin mile.
Dubai World Cup night takes place at Meydan on March 28.
