Double Thunder shows lightning pace in debut win.

Double Thunder shows lightning pace in debut success.

Phoenix Thoroughbreds might just have an exciting juvenile colt on their hands after Double Thunder showed good speed to win on debut at Monmouth Park.

Paying off nearly half his $60k price tag in one run, the son of  Super Saver was eyecatching in victory leading home a Todd Pletcher exacta. Since day one, the graphite galloper has been a favourite of his owners, showing plenty of ability in his pre-training and the colt had no trouble transferring his talents to race day conditions.

Named in honour of the memorable race call of the 2019 Dubai World Cup, Double Thunder lined up at the four and a half furlong start in post one. Keen not to get trapped in a pocked rider Albin Jimenez did an excellent job in getting his mount away quickly and sat in second place. Following his barnmate through the early part of the race, the winning debutante started to wind up for his move halfway through the turn for home. Just in front at the top of the stretch, he began to get the upper hand before pulling away to win by just over a length.
