Confessing continued Phoenix Thoroughbreds’ recent good form in the U.S. by claiming the Ricks Memorial Stakes at Remington Park on Sunday, September 28.
The Scat Daddy filly backed up her victory in at Kentucky Downs with a three-quarters of a length success on her first attempt in Stakes company. The victory also provided trainer Steve Asmussen with a third straight win the $60,000 race.
Jockey Stewart Elliott was content to hold up the four-year-old in around fifth place for the majority of the mile and sixteenth contest. Taking the brave route up the rail confessing moved into contention, travelling well, at the turn for home. In the stretch, Elliott switched his mount off the rail and the filly picked up nicely, squeezing through a gap before the rider had the comfort to put down his stick and ease her across the line stopping the clock on a firm track reading 1:42.10.
