The consistent and talented Back To Brussels is the latest mare to join Phoenix Thoroughbreds breeding ranks in Ireland ahead of an exciting breeding season for the owners.
A dual winner and three-time listed placed while trained by Fozzy Stack, the daughter of Starspangledbanner is booked to be covered by No Nay Never. A half-sister to Group -Three K Club, Back To Brussels’ page is plastered with black-type. Her match with the Coolmore sire is full of promise with similar matings through the Danehill line producing Champion 2yo and Champion European Sprinter Ten Sovereigns and Richmond Stakes winner Land Force.
Grade One winner Nickname was a Phoenix mare in the spotlight in 2021. Her first foal, a filly by the late great Galileo, attracted €1.5m from the Coolmore team at the Goffs Orby Sale. Currently, in foal to elite-stallion Wootton Bassett, she’ll be on his schedule again for 2022. Comparable sire lines have already produced Group Two winner Tamahere in America and the highly exciting, unbeaten Group Three winning Topgear in France.
With her similar pedigree, also set to be covered by Wootton Bassett in the coming season, is Group Three-placed Take Me With You. In foal to Galileo, her first foal by the former champion sold was another to sell well at the Goffs Orby sale.
Meanwhile, Phoenix’s Queen Mary winner Signora Cabello, whose Galileo filly is now a yearling, will be covered by fellow Royal Ascot winner No Nay Never. Much like Back To Brussels, the cross is close to that which produced Ten Sovereigns. At the same time, Pocketfullofdream, who has a three-year-old Galileo filly in training with Ado McGuinness, and winning Mastercraftsman mare Simannka will also be covered by the Prix Morny winner.
Elsewhere, Pure Nature, a filly that saw her rating rise by 27lbs to a mark of 91 under the guidance of the aforementioned Ado McGuinness, has a return date with Mehmas. The well-bred daughter of Declaration Of War, French Battle, will also revisit the Tally-Ho Stud based stallion in 2022.
