In another performance full of promise, Always In Moment cruised to success under an excellent Damian Lane ride at Sandown on Tuesday (June 16).
The victory takes the Phoenix Ladies owned filly’s record to two wins in four starts and is likely to put her on the path towards some valuable prizes in the Spring.
Keeping life simple, Lane kept the Michael Kent trainee away from her rivals on the outside of the field, allowing the occasionally tight wound No Nay Never filly to relax. She found her rhythm well and was only a few lengths off the lead and travelling menacingly as they all entered the turn. Given she was moving so well, the three-year-old perhaps hit the front a little earlier than ideal, but if anyone thought she was a sitting duck to her fast-finishing rivals, she made them think again, pulling out plenty more when challenged to win with a bit to spare.
“Things worked out well,” Lane told Racing.com. “It’s to her advantage being drawn a little bit wide and you can take your time with her.
“I thought I was going to have to work a bit,” Lane continued. “The wind’s picked up and it’s head on down the back straight, so I thought I’d done a little too much uphill and into the wind, but she was very tough. She knuckled down late on and held her gallop all the way to the line.”
