Advertise off the mark as a first-season sire.

Triple Group One winner Advertise is off the mark as a stallion thanks to the victory of Matters Most at Salisbury.

The Commonwealth Cup, Phoenix Stakes and Prix Maurice De Gheest winner only saw his first crop runners hit the track at the back end of April but is already a winning sire, thanks to Ralph Beckett’s charge. Having finished an unlucky third on his debut run, Matters Most made no mistake this time as jockey Rossa Ryan had the two-year-old just behind the leader in the five-furlong contest. A furlong out, he asked him to go and win his race, and the further he went, the more in charge he looked.

“I thought the last day he was going to improve a lot,” Ryan told Racing TV post-race. “He still has a lot to improve on, but I was travelling like the winner all over. I probably had to commit a bit earlier than ideal because he still has a lot to learn in the closing stages. He’ll benefit from going up to six furlongs and has the mind to be a nice horse going forward.”

Advertise has made a good start to his stud career, covering over 100 mares in both his first two seasons. The Manton Park-based stallion also saw his progeny sell for up to 20 and 12 times his stallion fee, while his sales average at Tattersalls and Goffs is more than double that of the £20,000 he stands for in 2023.
