Leading European stallion Aclaim has welcomed his first Australian-born foal.
The newly minted colt out of Phoenix Thoroughbreds’ unraced Snitzel mare With Zeal arrived at Vinery Stud on Wednesday morning (9th August). The stallion, owned in partnership by Phoenix, Canning Downs and his breeder Dermot Farrington shuttled to the Southern Hemisphere last year to stand at Aquis in Queensland.
The team at Vinery described the latest addition to the Phoenix roster as “a good-sized colt with strength and good bone”. He is the first foal for the related-mare whose own dam is the VRC Australian Guineas runner-up You’re So Good, while she also hails from the same family as TJ Smith champion Melito.
A first Southern Hemisphere foal is another major landmark for Aclaim. He has already produced a classic winner in Europe, significantly from his first crop, thanks to Cachet’s success in the 1000 Guineas. He sits firmly in the top five of third-crop stallions in the UK in terms of the number of winners and in the top ten for prize money won by his offspring.
“We’re delighted with our latest addition,” said Phoenix Spokesperson Jamie Watson. “The birth of this colt marks another exciting chapter in Aclaim’s career. He covered plenty of top-class mares during his time in Australia and we’re sure he’ll continue to produce foals full of quality.”
“He’s turned into a very useful stallion in Europe in producing high-class performers and plenty of winners, and we can see no reason why that trend won’t continue in Australia. He covered a book full of classy mares during his stay in the Southern Hemisphere and we are excited to see the results.”
